How to Choose a Makeup Artist

Choosing a makeup artist can be a daunting task but there are a few key things to keep in mind to help you find the right one for you.

  1. First and foremost, do you see yourself in the makeup they do? Not all makeup artists are going to be YOUR artist. When you are looking, you need to ask yourself does their style match the vision you have for you?

  2. What is their experience? In this age of social media everyone seems to be a makeup artist, so it can be very difficult to separate the pros from the enthusiasts. Do they work on other peoples faces (and get paid for it) or just their own? How long have they been working in this field? What is their training?

  3. Can you get references or read reviews to get a sense of their professionalism and reputation? Talent is one thing, but it’s not all it takes to be a professional makeup artist. How do they communicate with clients? Are they on time? Do they practice exceptional sanitation? Do they have a contract outlining expectations of both you and them?

  4. Do they have a website? It may sound silly and antiquated but an established business still uses a website. Social media is great and also an important marketing tool, but a website is something that brings an artists level of professionalism up a notch.

  5. Are they insured? You’re probably thinking why is this important? Well, in the very rare chance you have an extreme reaction to something that is put on your face, or your eye is accidentally scratched with a mascara wand (accidents happen) don’t you want to know that your makeup artist takes what they do seriously enough to take that precaution?

With so many in your area, it can be hard to choose a makeup artist. Make sure you take a few minutes to do your research and find out if they meet the criteria you’re looking for. It will make your entire experience so much better! Take a look at the Makeup Services that I offer and see if we are a good fit.
